The Remains of the Day

You can duet with anyone in the world, living or dead. Who and why?
Impossible to pick just one…..Neil Young, Nick Drake, Billy Holiday, Guy Garvey; that would be one interesting ‘superband’!
What comes first for you lyrics or melody?
When I’m composing it really depends on the song. Sometimes the lyrics are informed by the melody which may evoke a certain feeling or mood. The pattern of the melody can also impact the lyrics through the relationship between the syllables and spoken sounds and a beat or picking pattern. Often I will write lyrics first and play around with different compositions to see what fits the mood of the words.
Ruth will be making a very special appearance performing at WORDfest for the Report, Discuss, Promote panel & the LIVE Open MIC on Wednesday 6th at 6pm at The Hawth.
